Very interesting. I'd thought about why I get bored with TV and watch less and less (interactivity, passivity, lack of participating/creating), but I hadn't thought of how it relates to culture. Especially important to consider as a designer. Thanks for sharing this!

Consuming, Producing and Sharing with the Cognitive Surplus... A good mantra for the new age. Also a good rationale for spending time wisely in the social networking world... and as such, I don't completely buy the Warcraft argument as an example.
