great tip for mac users

figured this one out myself, so i thought i'd post it.

services in osx are potentially quite useful, letting you perform actions on a selected item regardless of what application you're in. the problem, for me at least, is that i try to use keyboard shortcuts whenever possible.

that's where peter maurer's excellent utility Service Scrubber comes in. Service Scrubber lets you see all available services, toggle them on and off and, most importantly, assign your own keyboard shortcuts to them.

the one i use constantly is the system service OpenURL, which does exactly what it says - any highlighted URL will be opened. by assigning it Shift-Command-O i no longer have to cut and paste urls into safari's address bar.

you could do the same technique for sending a url to Delicious via Pukka or shortening a url and copying it to the clipboard using the TinyURL service.

handy dandy.

if you come up with any more good ones, leave a comment.
